ABOUT

Vocals, writing, mandolin, guitar, and voilin.

Annabelle Maginnis began playing suzuki violin at 10, and sang before she spoke.  She first picked up a mandolin in 2011 and taught herself so she could accompany vocal concepts.  In a state of sheer desperation, she finally freed many of the musical ideas from her head.  Out in the physical world, they started bumping around people, places, and things in a way that pleasantly surprised her.

It was not until recently that she considered pursuing music on a more serious level.  While studying abroad in 2014, she played a few open mics in Holland, an art-filled Liberation Day celebration in Parma, Italy, and the festival, Audiosoup, in Scotland.  After positive responses abroad, it occurred to her that she could actually share her music on a larger scale.

Annabelle came back to San Rafael, California to finish her degree and linked up with her current bandmate, Kofi to form Act Natural.  Together, they played a Soul Candy performance at Dominican University before about 400 people, did an hour-lomg radio show segment, and played a few Black Student Union events.

After graduating, she returned to Europe where she played shows nightly on an island in Greece called Samothraki for two weeks. She then gigged around Istanbul, Turkey, linking with Iranian musicians where she experienced music's power to bridge the social disconnect between politically opposing nations. She played an hour set at a beach bar in Lefkada, Greece before finishing up her travels.
She returned to the US to live in LA where she is now gigging weekly at private venues as well as The Silverlake Lounge, Five Star Bar, Fais Do Do, White Oaks Music Academy, Bar 20 on Sunset, Canter's Kibitz Room.  She is also practicing at open mics around LA, collaborating, and recording to see where music will lead her next.
